Neon Odyssey – Worth the voyage

NEON Odyssey | 19th anniversary of NEON

I wanted my first post on this blog to be about all the great shows coming up ( and that already happened) this spring but then I started writing about the Neon Odyssey (19th anniversary of NEON) and realised this event needed a post of its own.

I’ve been following NEON (http://iloveneon.ca/) ever since they started in 1998 and have always been a fan. I remember when people actually dressed in neon clothes to assist their parties. NEON has now become an amazing concert promoter producing over 150 show a year all around Montreal.

The lineup for their 19th year Odyssey completely reflects how good they’ve become at organising quality events.

This is it! Voici le calendrier de la semaine pour NEON Odyssey | 19e Anniversaire de NEON! Quels spectacles de la programmation avez-vous les plus hâte de voir?Billets // Tickets: www.iloveneon.ca

Tuesday April 11

Petit Biscuit (live) | Théâtre Fairmount

(House, Dance)

https://soundcloud.com/petitbiscuit

Petit Biscuit can have some dancy sounds which I am not so fond of but his music is so floaty and fun it’s still pleasant to listen and dance to. This show was sold out, but I managed to get a ticket after hours of scouring the Facebook page.  You’ll hear more about this soon!

Wednesday, April 12

Floating Points (LIVE) w/ JFDR | Théâtre Fairmount

(Funky jazzy house, Electronic)

https://soundcloud.com/floatingpoints

This music is less danceable and accessible than that of the other groups in this list but it offers very interesting orchestral sounds. If you are in the mood for something very original and progressive, it’s worth a listen.

Friday April 14
Jacques Greene (live) w/ Suicideyear | Newspeak

(House, UK style garage)

https://soundcloud.com/jacquesgreene

This guy is actually from Montreal and just released his first full-Length debut album, Feel Infinite, this last march. The album is very much worth listening to and has been well rated by critics. According to the label, Feel Infinite is “a record about the utopian idea of club culture – music about the club, as well as for the club in and of itself.”

Tale Of Us | Theatre Berri

(Electronic Dance)

Tale of us, who reside in Berlin, have a more electronic and experimental sound. Their music created an atmosphere filled with depth and emotions.

Moderat w/ CRi | Métropolis

(minimal techno, electronica, house)

https://soundcloud.com/moderat-official

I went to see their show last year and it was one of my best of 2016. Simply astounding. Planning on seeing them again this tuesday. Moderat are from Berlin, Germanyt and originate from two other groups, Apparat and Modeselektor. The band released their third album in april last year and it was superb. The group was voted “The #1 Live Act of the Year” in 2009 by the readers of the online electronic music magazine Resident Advisor.
